SHRIVENHAM Bowls Club are celebrating a club first.
The quartet of Mandy Forty, Marilyn Forty, Eve Millidge and Esme Haste have won the Berkshire County Women's Fours title.
It is the first time in the club's 35-year history that anyone from Shrivenham has won this county title in the national rinks competitions.
The foursome clinched the title with a 20-14 victory over Caversham in the final which was played at Reading BC.
In the opening round, the Shrivenham rink beat Wantage and followed that up with a win over Thatcham.
They then accounted for Hagbourne skipped by Lynda Snowdon and in the quartet-finals defeated Maiden Erlegh.
More success followed as they produced a comfortable 25-16 win over Woodley in the semi-finals played at Suttons (Reading) and also qualified for the national championships at Leamington.
Their remarkable run in the competition was sealed as they took the county title with a six-shot win over Caversham in the final.
The Shrivenham ladies now move forward to the national fours finals in Leamington on Sunday.
In their opening game they are drawn against Somerset 1.
For the quartet, apart from Eve Millidge, it will be the first time that they have competed in the nationals at Leamington.
It will be Millidge's first appearance there since 1988 when she played in the Champion of Champions tournament.
Two years previously she competed in the triples with Pat Smith and Angela Downton.
